MADISONVILLE, KY  (04/18/15) – The 24th annual Home and Garden Show is taking place at the Ballard Center with seminars and home improvement information.  The event began Friday and continues through today, April 18.

Madisonville Zoning Administrator and event organizer Debbie Todd said there are two exhibit halls full of vendors with the latest in home improvement ideas.  The event features lawn and gardening, pools, fencing, home décor, art work, security systems, grills and cookware. Madisonville-North Hopkins agriculture students are selling plants, flowers and vegetables while Hopkins County-Central High School Consumer science students will be cooking and offering food for sale.

Todd said the event features several informative seminars such as how to become a “handywoman” with practical home maintenance instruction on topics such as fixing a leaky faucet or a running toilet, how to deal with sticking windows and how to turn off water or gas supplies at home in case of emergency at 2 p.m. Saturday. Other seminar topics include, “Things You Should Know Before They Happen,” how to physically and safely maintain a home at 10 a.m. Saturday; and, “Making Your Handheld Equipment Last,” about learning to maintain items such as a string or hedge trimmer, chainsaw or leaf blower at noon Saturday.

The event will also include free tree seedlings, fire safety house tours, and free prizes including a chance to win Kenny Chesney concert tickets and an outdoor living/cooking package valued at $1,800 sponsored by Lowe’s and the Home Builders Association Registered Builders.

Todd said about 800 to 1,000 people typically visit the show each year.

“The event has a little bit of something for everybody,” said Todd.

The event is sponsored by the Hopkins County Home Builders Association and will continues until 5 p.m. at the Hopkins County Fairgrounds Ballard Convention Center. Admission is $5 per family (limit two adults) or $3 per person with children 6 and under for free.
